Julio Cesar Martinez Leaving Nothing to Chance in Preparation for Roman Gonzalez!
Julio Cesar “El Rey” Martinez (18-1, 14KOs) is gearing up for the biggest fight of his career when he takes on Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez (50-3, 41KOs) on March 5 on DAZN. As is with most big-time fights, training camp is the most important aspect before fight day. The preparation, game planning, and conditioning are what allow for the fighter to feel at his or her peak on fight night.
That is the case with Martinez. He’s leaving no stone unturned as he looks to pick up the biggest win of his career. Speaking to Fight Hub TV, Martinez divulged some of the things he’s been doing in preparation for Gonzalez.
“We’re not skimming on anything; we’re not skimping on any of our training. We’re chopping wood. We’re doing 12 rounds of sparring, then after that we lower it to about eight or six rounds […] We’re prepared for this!”
Already blessed with tremendous punching power in both hands, his decision to chop wood as part of this training camp indicates he’s trying to increase his overall physical strength and that he’s gearing up for a physical battle. Another thing is, Gonzalez struggled with the physicality and pressure of Srisaket Sor Rungvisai in both fights, and was ultimately brutally knocked out in the fourth round of their rematch.
It’s no secret that Martinez is going to come straight forward, applying tons of pressure and throwing big shots to the head and body of Chocolatito. Can Martinez chop down Chocolatito like he’s been chopping down wood during training camp? We’ll get our answers very soon.
