Mikaela Mayer Fires Shots at Alycia Baumgardner!
For especially competitive people, suffering a loss can be a torturous endeavor; yet losing to a rival is its own special hell. Unfortunately, this is exactly what talented super featherweight fighter Mikaela Mayer (17-1, 5 KO’s) is suffering through right now. This is because, in her last tour of duty, she endured her first professional loss and had her two titles hijacked. Even worse, this detrimental turn of events all came at the hands her bitter rival WBO, IBF and WBC Alycia “The Bomb” Baumgardner (13-1, 7 KO’s).
Prior to their duel, both ladies had no lack of trash talk to exchange. Clearly this woofing back-and-forth will not stop any time soon! Only now, Mayer is giving off spoiled sport vibes as she has taken to her social media to besmirch Baumgardner’s victory. Truthfully speaking, the bout was fairly evenly contested when looking at the match in its entirety, hence the split decision. At the same time though, The Bomb did do enough to earn the decision minus any controversy.
I’LL GET YOU NEXT TIME!!
It will be interesting to see how each fighter bounced back from their match. Baumgardner has already stated her desire to trade leather with WBA Super featherweight champion Hyun-Mi Choi for undisputed status. If that prizefight does not pan out, then The Bomb would like her a big time showdown with undisputed lightweight champion Katie Taylor. Only time will tell which, if either, of these bouts she is destined to sign.
For her part, Mayer’s next move is a bit more mysterious as she has not indicated who she is going to face next. Well, the one-time unified champion did make it known she would like a rematch with The Bomb. However, Baumgardner has repeatedly said a rematch will not come any time soon. Mayer did hint that her next adversary is already in the works.
Considering Mayer did not sustain that much physical damage in her last fight, and due to thinking she won, there is no reason for Mayer to take on a soft touch. Through her social media, Mayer offered the fans a chance to voice their opinion on the matter. In the end though, we’ll all have to wait and see what the business of boxing produces. The only thing that we can be extremely sure of is the Baumgardner rematch will not be next!
