Mikaela Mayer Still Wants Her Rematch with Alycia Baumgardner

Unified 154-pound and WBO 147-pound champion Mikaela Mayer has the boxing news buzzing. A video dropped online confirming of MVP Promotion’s Jake Paul wrapping Mayer’s hands, confirming her signing with the team and departure from Top Rank. In addition, she could finally land that rematch against unified 130-pound champion Alycia “The Bomb” Baumgardner.

After being asked about joining the movement, she replied, “I’ve been ready.” The two-division champion could land fights with unified 160-pound champion Densley Robinson or former champion Chantelle Cameron. The opportunities for big fights are endless, and there is a high probability of them happening.

THE REMATCH THAT NEEDS TO BE MADE

There are plenty of fights that can be made for Mayer. Facing Robinson provides the chance of becoming a four-division champion. She could also wait and face the winner of Cameron vs Michaela Kotaskovs for the vacant WBO title, which Mayer held previously.

However, the one fight that should be a top priority is the rematch with Baumgardner. That was Mayer’s first career loss, and she’s been chasing that rematch since 2022. A recent interview offered the chance to affirm this is still the case.

“I’ve asked for it, I’m here for it. I’ve wanted it, I don’t know if she does. But, I guess now we’re under the same stable, so we may have a conversation. We’ll see.”

If The Bomb successfully defends the titles against Bo Mi Re Shin on April 17, there needs to be a conversation on making the rematch. It would require an agreement where one woman moves up in weight, and the other comes down. At the end of the day, it’s a fight that fans still want to see.
