Christian Mbilli Could Clash With Canelo For Undisputed In 2025
Super middleweight contender Christian “Solide” Mbilli (28-0, 23KO) has two paths that could lead to a showdown with unified champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (61-2-2, 39KO)
After a solid performance against veteran Sergiy “The Technician” Derevyanchenko, Mbilli wants to fight for a title.
“Right now, I’m ready for a big fight. I want to be a world champion…I don’t want to say any names, but everyone knows who’s number one, I have to beat the number one. I want to fight with the number one.”
Mbilli didn’t hesitate to give his thoughts on Canelo versus Berlanga when asked.
“I think it’ll be an easy fight for Canelo. He’s going to win this fight, but after I’ll be ready for him.”
HIS PATH TO THE TITLE OR UNDISPUTED
The IBF has finally pulled the trigger and taken back the title. It is something the boxing public was made aware of after the fight with Berlanga had been announced. Now with the title vacant, it opens the door for two possible scenarios that could benefit Mbilli.
The IBF could order him and number one contender William Scull to fight for the vacant title. If victorious Mbilli ranked number three by the organization would find himself in line for a fight against Canelo for the undisputed crown.
When looking deeper into the ranking, he’s ranked number one by the WBC and number two by the WBA. With David Benavidez no longer in the picture, boxing fans shouldn’t be surprised when the WBC orders Mbilli as the mandatory challenger.
Placing Mbilli in position to fight Canelo was the reason why Top Rank decided to sign him to a co-promotional deal. Like it or not, he has got to be considered the frontrunner to face Alvarez in 2025.
