Michael Gomez Jr. Wants Louie O’Doherty Next
Lightweight fighter Michael Gomez Jr. (23-2, 8KO) picked up a minor title after stopping “Lightning” Lee McGregor (16-3-1, 11KO) in the sixth round. After the fight, he called out British and Commonwealth titlist Louie O’Doherty (12-0, 3KO).
Gomez came out like a buzzsaw, throwing hard punches, looking to take over the fight early. He was rocked by McGregor before returning fire and landing a hard right hand that hurt his rival. In round four, he dropped Lightning, which was the beginning of the end.
McGregor’s corner had seen enough after watching him get hit repeatedly by hard shots ad threw in the towel. An excited Gomez wasted no time in expressing what he wanted next, during the in-ring, post-fight interview.
“Louie O’Doherty, I want that fucking smoke, baby! let’s go!”
His call-out of O’Doherty is no surprise as both fighters were on the same card. The British champion looked amazing en route to a dominating victory. His overall boxing ability, movement, and punch output can be hard to deal with.
Gomez Jr.’s pressure, counter-punching ability, and body attack can be overwhelming. This would be a great fight, as neither man looks to take a step backward.
