Filip Hrgovic Stops David Allen and Turns Toward Moses Itauma

In what was billed as David versus Goliath, top heavyweight contender Filip “El Animal” Hrgovic (20-1, 15KO) demolished “White Rhino” David Allen (25-9-2, 20KO) with ease. Now the holder of two minor titles, El Animal will most likely face stablemate Moses Itauma (14-0, 12KO) by the end of the year.

In an unusual fashion, the Croatian came out pushing the pace behind the jab, followed by hard, thudding right hands. He fought at a distance, throwing punches to the body and upstairs. Landing repeated hard shots with his opponent against the ropes, Hrgovic forced Allen’s corner to stop the fight in the third round.

Ranked #2 by the WBO, he acknowledged being open to facing Itauma during the in-ring, post-fight interview.

“I always told you I want to fight with anyone in the division, Moses, anyone….Give me a mirror, and I’ll sign the contract now.”

“If I am healthy and look like I am, no problem for me…I never run from anyone. Moses never reached promised land.”

Itauma is coming off two big stoppages over former title challenger Dillian Whyte and Jermaine Franklin. However, this version of Hrgovic looks to be a problem. In addition, the only person to defeat him is three-time champion Daniel Dubois.

A victory by either fighter should automatically warrant a title shot afterwards.
