Louie O’Doherty Should Target Acosta After Dominating Hatim

In a lightweight battle for the British titles, Louie O’Doherty (12-0, 3KO) retains the British title after beating Ahmed “No Mercy” Hatim (12-1, 3KO) for the vacant Commonwealth title. He could challenge EBU champion Rafael “Falito” Acosta (17-1, 6KO) next.

From the opening bell, O’Doherty controlled the fight with a high-octane punch output. He worked well behind the jab and mixed up the attack, which kept No Mercy off balance. In the closing rounds, he cranked up the offense even more, landing four and five unanswered shots that seemed to hurt Hatim momentarily.

When the final bell sounded, O’Doherty walked away with a unanimous decision. With this victory, a fight with Acosta should be the next target. The lightweight division is loaded with talent at the world level. A victory over Falito would see him ranked by one of the sanctioning bodies.

Acosta hasn’t lost a fight since 2022 and has looked unstoppable. He has never traveled outside of his country, Spain, but could be lured to the United Kingdom. O’Doherty’s fast hands, defense, and ring IQ are what make it an interesting fight despite having less experience than the Spaniard.
