Moruti Mthalane vs Charlie Edwards is still possible!
Recently, 3kingsboxing.com has reported on IBF flyweight champion Moruti Mthalane showing interest in unifying the division against WBC champion Charlie Edwards.
However, in a recent interview with Mthalane’s trainer Colin Nathan, he revealed that an offer was made for a July bout by Matchroom Sports. It was turned down and Nathan provided an explanation as to why.
“I turned down the date because it is too soon. Moruti has just fought. He needs time to recover.
“It would have meant going straight back into another training camp, so I felt it is not good for Moruti.”
Now this doesn’t mean that a unification won’t happen. However, it is the trainer’s job to do what is best for his fighter. This isn’t uncommon.
Mthalane is coming off of a hard twelve-round decision in his second successful title defense since winning the belt in 2018. He has extended his win streak to an impressive fourteen straight victories over a ten year span.
3kingsboxing will continue to monitor this story for further developments.
