Vergil Ortiz Jr. continues to win!
Undefeated power-punching prospect Vergil Ortiz Jr took a huge step up in competition against former title contender Mauricio Herrera.
The fight started slow as the former title contender would look to use the experience to his advantage. He managed getting on the inside and landing some good punches, looking to frustrate the young fighter.
Things were going well until the end of the second round. Ortiz showed tremendous patience, landing a huge right-hand off the feint, putting the veteran on the canvas just as the bell sounded.
Ortiz came out in the third round energized realizing he had a hurt fighter in front of him . He attacked with the jab and body shots until finally landing a right-hand that saw the veteran’s body go limp.
The ref immediately jumped in to stop the fight as the veteran was going down to the canvas. Ortiz knocked out a durable opponent, delivering his first knockout loss to maintain his perfect knock out streak.
Ortiz made it clear during the post fight interview he’s ready for a world title right now. The super lightweight division has a deep pool of young, hungry, talented fighters. It’s an exciting time for boxing in this division.
