Pacquiao will defend his WBA regular welterweight title against Broner in Las Vegas!
Nine-time champion Manny Pacquiao will return to the United States for the first time since defeating Jessie Vargas in 2016. The opponent will be none other than four-division champion Adrien Broner.
Rumors about this bout have been circulating for some time now along with stories of him signing with Al Haymon. 3kingsboxing.com previously reported his addition to the PBC brand with his first fight being Broner.
Both stories have come to fruition. Many speculated a Mayweather/Pacquiao bout would happen in December since the two got into an altercation in Japan on the weekend of Canelo-Golovkin 2.
However, the stipulation is if Pacquiao defeats Broner, he will be in line for a the rematch in May 2019.
While many wrote Broner off due to lack of notable wins beyond lightweight, he will bring intrigue into this bout. Coupling his ability to sell a fight using his personality with Pacquiao’s loyal fan-base will make a very successful event.
As of now, the fight is scheduled for January 19 in Las Vegas, Nevada and will be aired on FOX. The first fight within the new multi-million dollar deal PBC reached with the network.
