Vlad Panin defeats Benjamin Whitaker!
On the under-card of Jason Moloney v Leonardo Baez, super welterweight Vlad “Super Bad” Panin (8-1, 4 KO’z) picked up a rather relaxed majority points victory. Rather than continuously press the action, his opponent, Benjamin Whitaker (13-3, 3 KO), fell into consistent spells of inactivity.
Aside from this, the Belarus boxer enjoyed a significant height and reach advantage that he used quite effectively in spots.
When he choose to attack, Whitaker was very effective with his own jab, straight and overhand rights. At the tail end of the third round, a light bulb seemed to go off for the Texan. His offense appeared to be catching a groove. This momentum largely carried over the into fourth, but dissipated by the bell.
Then in the final round, Whitaker’s picked up the pace again and began striking the body with focused intent. In the end it appeared to be a case of too little too late. Two the three judges saw Panin doing the better work and gave him the nod.
