Regis Prograis and Mikey Garcia are on the same page
Former WBA junior welterweight champion Regis “Rougarou” Prograis (26-1, 22ko) has been looking for a big name opponent since joining forces with Al Haymon’s Premier Boxing Champions banner. Rougarou could finally be getting his wish in a big fight against four-divisional champion Mikey Garcia (40-1, 30ko).
The former champion has been in a few social media exchanges with some of the most recognizable names in the sport. He once told WBO welterweight champion Terence “Bud” Crawford that he was coming for him. Next, during an interview with 3kingsboxing, Prograis called out two-divisional champion Danny “Swift” Garcia.
“I think Danny is easy cake for me. Danny looked shot!” ~ Regis Prograis
Of course, fans remember the back and forth Prograis had with two other former champions in Maurice “Mighty Mo” Hooker and Adrien “AB” Broner. Equally important, he was supposed to fight Hooker until it got canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The fight would get rescheduled, but there was an issue with the weight agreement.
The beef with Broner has been going on since 2019. AB, on a live social media video, made it known his thoughts on fighting Rougarou.
“I’ll beat the fuck out of buddy, no cap. I’ll fuck buddy up.” ~ Adrien Broner
Prograis has responded several times, calling for the fight. He even asserted that AB would be the one to take a beating.
“I would fuck Adrien Broner up!” ~ Regis Prograis
Lately, Rougarou was involved in a heated war of words with two-division champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis. Despite the social media call-outs and verbal assault, nothing moved for the former WBA champion.
Well, all of that could be about to change. Garcia has made it known that he is very interested in a fight with Prograis. He has been looking for a big fight since coming up short against unified champion Errol Spence Jr. Garcia was hoping to land a big payday fight with Manny “Pac Man” Pacquiao. However, things did not pan out and he is now looking to make something happen with Rougarou.
“My answer has always been yes!” ~ Mikey Garcia
Prograis, getting the news of this, wasted little time in taking to social media to show that he is on the same page.
3kingsboxing was able to speak with the former WBA champion, who is now training with legendary fighter Roy Jones Jr. Prograis is confident the fight can happen, especially after speaking to members from Team Garcia.
“All sides want the fight. I am looking for a big fight. There is no reason why this fight should not happen next.”
