Gilberto Ramirez Planning to Bully and Break Dmitry Bivol!
On November 5, Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez (44-0, 30 KOs) will challenge reigning WBA light heavyweight Super champ Dmitry Bivol (20-0, 11 KOs) at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The challenger has long targeted a bout with Bivol and will at long last get the chance to fight him.
One-time WBO super middleweight champion Ramirez sat down for an exclusive interview with 3Kings Boxing. When asked about his potential size advantage, the 31-year-old southpaw said he plans to use it to full effect.
WILL SIZE MATTER?
“I will be bigger, the bigger guy with more reach. People want to see this fight, and it will be amazing […] I will break him. I will break him down, and I will be in the best condition.”
Bivol is a fighter with excellent foot movement and boxing skills. But one of Zurdo’s strengths is his inside fighting game. With his greater overall length, the pride of Mazatlan, Sinaloa, Mexico believes he can effectively cut off the ring and find a home for power punches.
A growing number of pundits view Ramirez as a very live dog. One of them happens to be Hall of Famer Roy Jones, who called the ex-super middleweight champ a dangerous guy with a legit chance to win.
HAVING A CHIP ON HIS SHOULDER
Upon hearing what Jones had to say, Ramirez said that adds more fuel to the fire. He’s determined to show that he’s the guy who should be at the top of the mountain at 175.
“It’s interesting because people, they think I’m the B-Side. But I feel like I’m the champion, and I am the champion, and I will prove myself. I will prove to everyone I can do it […] I came from Mexico to conquer the United States. Now, I will become a two-time world champion, and I will conquer Abu Dhabi.”
