Robeisy Ramirez Eyes a Featherweight Unification with Luis Lopez
The featherweight division could be on the verge of a big unification as WBO champion Robeisy Ramirez (12-1, 7KO) is eyeing a fight with fellow stablemate and IBF champion Luis Lopez (27-2, 15KO).
Fans shouldn’t be surprised by Ramirez’s callout. After outclassing one-time junior featherweight champion Isaac Dogboe, he immediately called for a fight with the winner between Lopez and Conlan.
Lopez has been shocking the boxing world since his last loss against Ruben Villa in 2019. He scored wins over undefeated guys like Cristian Baez, Gabriel Flores Jr, and Isaac Lowe, which caught the attention of the boxing community. In 2022, his victory over two-time champion Josh Warrington for the IBF title is what thrust him into the spotlight.
On May 27, the Mexican champion cemented himself as a legit champion with a successful first title defense in a fifth-round stoppage over two-time title challenger Michael Conlan. What makes the victory even more impressive is he traveled into his opponent’s backyard for a second time.
Before fans get too excited, the WBO champion must first take care of business in the upcoming title defense against WBO’s number-twelve ranked contender Satoshi Shimizu on July 25.
This fight should be easy to make as both champions fight under the Top Rank banner. Moreover, they both have expressed wanting to collect all the belts, and a fight between them could set things in motion.
The featherweight division has quickly turned into one of the most must-see divisions in the sport.
