Are Tevin Farmer and Ryan Garcia on a Collision Course?
Well, on the outside looking in, it appears that former super featherweight champion Tevin “American Idol” Farmer (30-5-1, 6 KO’s) is going to lock horns with lightweight boxer Ryan “King Ry” Garcia (21-0, 18 KO’s). Over the last few days, Farmer in particular has shown his interest in the potential dustup via his social media. Now however, he has posted a mock fight poster depicting a would-be bout with Garcia next.
While this would make for a fantastic scrap, at the moment it is still firmly nestled in the rumor mill. It is also a mystery at what weight class the potential match would be contested at. In his last prizefight, Farmer competed as a super featherweight whereas Garcia is a lightweight fighter. More than likely, the American Idol would move up to meet King Ry. In fact, Farmer is coming off a loss to Joseph Diaz. Ironically enough, following their duel, Diaz moved up to lightweight himself. He is now 1-1 in the division.
DAMAGE CONTROL
Technically speaking, Ryan Garcia remains an undefeated fighter as he has never lost a professional bout in the ring. Outside the ring though, Garcia’s reputation has taken quite a thumping over the course of 2021! King Ry, who is ranked #2 (WBC), started the year off with a career-best win over Luke Campbell. Even better, he toppled Campbell by way of seventh round knockout.
Unfortunately, he has yet to compete since then. Garcia has threatened to get back in the ring only to have bouts with Manny Pacquiao, Javier Fortuna and Joseph Diaz fall apart. Actually, the matches with Fortuna and Diaz were made until Garcia pulled out. Due to repeatedly backing out of fights, many in the boxing world now doubt Garcia’s dedication to the sport. A standout showing versus Farmer would go a long way to helping mend his mangled credibility.
Again though, at the moment, a Farmer versus Garcia bout is pure speculation, but let’s hope it comes together. Yet, regardless of who these combatants dance with next, 3Kings Boxing will be there to report the news!
