Frank Warren Suspicious of Eddie Hearn’s Anthony Yarde v Joshua Buatsi Offer

3Kings Boxing previously reported that Eddie Hearn made a “massive” offer to representatives of Anthony Yarde (22-2, 21 KOs for a fight with Joshua Buatsi (15-0, 13 KOs). Speaking to iFL TV, Yarde’s promoter, Frank Warren, acknowledged the offer. However, the CEO of Queensberry Promotions expressed skepticism about Hearn’s motives.

ON A DIFFERENT PATH

“He did make an offer. Now what he calls massive and what I call massive are two different things, but he made an offer.

The bottom line of all of it is, Anthony fought in an eliminator on the fourth of December (2021) … So, it’s taken him nearly six weeks to make an offer since that fight. He’s only made that offer, in my opinion, is because he knows Anthony Yarde is now the mandatory for Joe Smith. We all said that before so, we know what it is. So, do we expect Anthony Yarde to give that position up to bail him out with his fighter?”

Frank Warren, Queensberry Promotions CEO

Warren went on to say he has no problem with Yarde eventually fighting Buatsi, but it makes no sense to do it now. He suggested if Buatsi is looking for a fight, why not take on Callum Johnson, who is ranked #5 by the WBO at 175 pounds? Team Yarde is focused on seeking a match with Smith, the current WBO light heavyweight champ.

IF NOT NOW, WHEN?

When asked if Yarde were to eventually win a world title, would they make an offer to Buatsi, Warren gave an answer that may raise some eyebrows.

“If Buatsi doesn’t fight Callum Johnson and Anthony Yarde wins the title, we would look to try and do something with Callum because Callum’s with us. We look after our fighters.”

A fight between Yarde and Buatsi would be a big event in England. For years, local pundits in the UK have believed they are on a collision course. But, according to Warren, they have other plans. At this point, it seems that the all-British light heavyweight showdown will not happen anytime soon.
