George Kambosos Facing Maxi Hughes in 2023 Return Fight
Former unified lightweight champion George “Ferocious” Kambosos (20-2, 10KO) is supposedly looking to return to the ring against top-rated veteran Maxi “Maximus” Hughes (26-5-2, 5KO).
Ferocious was once on top of the boxing world after shocking everyone by defeating former unified champion Teofimo Lopez in November 2021. Since then, the Aussie suffered two back-to-back defeats against current undisputed champion Devin Haney in 2022.
Kambosos is hoping to turn things around by seeking to prove himself in 2023. Moreover, he is still within range of the world title picture, being ranked #6 (WBC), #7 (IBF), #12 (WBA), and #13 (WBO). Word over on social media is the Aussie will be returning to the ring against Hughes.
Maximus is the holder of the lightly regarded IBO title. Moreover, he is on a seven-fight win streak since losing to one-time title challenger Liam Walsh in 2019.
Hughes thought about hanging up the gloves as his career was at a crossroads following the Walsh defeat. Yet, he decided to give the sport one more try and scored his biggest career victory against former IBF champion Kid Galahad in September 2022.
Honestly, this is not a bad return fight for the former unified champion. Hughes is ranked #9 (IBF) and #12 (WBC), respectively. Both fighters would bring their A-game as the winner could find themselves in a big fight down the line.
