Elie Scotney Makes Easy Work of Yamileth Mercado
In her latest tour of duty, unified super bantamweight champion Elie Scotney (11-0, 0 KO) defended her trio of belts from a game Yamileth Mercado by way of unanimous decision. On undoubtedly the biggest stage of her professional career, despite Mercado’s zeal, Scotney turned in a quality ten-round thumping. In her lightning quick post-fight interview, Scotney did not call out any particular opponent.
Despite this vague, live cliffhanger, the current scene is not exactly hazy. Scotney currently holds three of the four major titles requisite to become undisputed. The last title belongs to WBA super bantamweight champion Mayelli Flores Rosquero.
Luckily for fight fans, Rosquero was just victorious in action this past May 10 against Nazarena Romero. This is good news simply because both fighters competed about the same time, will recover nearly simultaneously and would theoretically return to action in unison.
With all this serendipity in the air, let’s just hope that these two fighters lock horns to crown an undisputed champion late in 2025. Yet, until we get an announcement, we have to wait on boxing’s back alley negotiations to produce some headlines.
