Sebastian Fundora Ready to Challenge Jermell Charlo for the Junior Middleweight Crown
Undisputed junior middleweight champion Jermell “Iron Man” Charlo (35-1-1, 19KOs) punctuated his claim as the divisional kingpin after stopping WBO champion Brian Castano in a Fight of the Year candidate bout on May 14. However, WBC Interim titlist Sebastian Fundora (18-0-1, 12KOs) is already calling for his shot.
Charlo will have little time to celebrate this prestigious accomplishment as challengers for the throne are already lining up. There is the IBF number one challenger Bakhram Murtazaliev, WBO mandatory challenger Tim Tszyu, and Fundora.
Tszyu wasted little time going to social media, calling for his turn immediately following Charlo’s victory. The Aussie has been holding down the mandatory spot since 2021. A decision by the WBO almost derailed the undisputed fight from taking place.
READY TO FIGHT THE UNDISPUTED CHAMPION
Fundora, ready to jump the line, has emerged as the next challenger. Accurately called “The Towering Inferno”, the 6’5 junior middleweight is an imposing figure. Fans are still talking about how he disfigured the face of former title challenger Erickson Lubin in their epic battle back in April.
Fundora walked away with the WBC Interim title, along with the mandatory spot as well. The Interim titlist was in attendance, and he believes that the champion’s dislike for pressure will work to his advantage.
“He can’t handle pressure. I don’t think he’s a fan of pressure that much but his power is still there, and Castano got careless, and he got caught. I feel like I’m the stronger fighter, I am the stronger fighter between Castano and me.”
“I’m another pressure fighter. I like to put pressure as well. So we’ll see when that fight happens […] he’s undisputed, respect to him. He did it. Congrats, but I want next.”
