Shakur Stevenson Sees Easy Prey in Floyd Schofield

Having maintained a rather consistent social media rift with lightweight contender Floyd “Kid Austin” Schofield (18-0, 12 KO’s), WBC 135-pound champion Shakur Stevenson (22-0, 10 KO’s) was watching his last duel. In that prizefight, despite displaying his talent, Schofield most certainly had his hands full with Rene Giron. So much so that many, including his own Golden Boy Promotional staff, feel that it’s time to slow down the rate that Kid Austin was being moved. Clearly, Stevenson shared those sentiments as he threw stones at Schofield via his social media account.

NO FAVORS DONE

With his latest performance now in the bag, it will be revealing to see what is next for Kid Austin. Just before his duel with Giron, Stevenson claimed that he would fight him next if Schofield was victorious. It goes without saying that, whether justified or not, Stevenson does not view Kid Austin as a realistic threat. Given this state of mind, he very well may want to give Schofield a shot. If so though, will Kid Austin’s Golden Boy Promotion stand in opposition to that prizefight?

Without question, Stevenson is in the driver’s seat of this budding rivalry. Even worse for Schofield, based on his last showing, he presented no tangible rationale for why he should be at the front of the line for a duel with Stevenson. Therefore it will be eye-opening to see if the WBC champion continues to antagonize Schofield or move onto bigger fish to fry. Only time will tell, but for the time being, all eyes are on Floyd Schofield!
