Archie Sharp Backs Stevenson Over Valdez and Seeks to Fight the Unified Champion
The boxing community may not be familiar with the name Archie “Sharpshooter” Sharp (21-0, 9 KO’s), but that still has not prevented the #1 WBO junior lightweight contender from wanting to fight WBO champion Shakur “Fearless” Stevenson (17-0, 9 KO’s).
Sharp currently holds the WBO Global junior lightweight title, which explains such a high ranking inside the WBO organization. Furthermore, he has been successfully defeating opponents while on the verge of a possible championship contest.
Now keep in mind that Stevenson has a major unification with fellow stablemate and WBC champion Oscar Valdez set for April 30. Sharpshooter has a vested interest in wanting to see Stevenson come out the victor.
LOOKING TO FIGHT THE CHAMPION
The 26-year-old British contender is no stranger to calling out the WBO champion for a fight. In 2021, he had a war of words with Stevenson on social media, and during an interview with iFL TV, he proclaimed to be the man that could beat Stevenson, along with calling the champion a fool.
He dropped the champion’s name again following a dominating performance over Alexis Kabore in October 2021. So it should come as no surprise that during an intermission interview during Danny Dignum vs Grant Dennis, Sharp backed Stevenson to win over Valdez and doubled down on his ability to beat Stevenson.
“I believe Shakur Stevenson will win that fight. He is the more technical, better boxer, and I think he beats Oscar Valdez. For myself, I am looking for the Shakur Stevenson fight for sure. I am very excited for that.
The thing is with me, I have been blessed with great footwork, and I haven’t showcased how good my footwork is really, in my opinion, out of the 21 fights I’ve had. Shakur Stevenson is such a high-level fighter that he is; that is when you will see the best Archie Sharp.”
