Claressa Shields Triumphs in Return to 160; Wants Thibeault’s Ring Belt
In her latest at bat, multi-divisional champion Claressa “T-Rex” Shields (19-0, 4 KO’s) dropped in weight to dethrone Kaye “Gladiator” Scott (5-2-1, 0 KO) by way of sixth-round TKO. With the spoils of war, Shields gobbled up Scott’s WBC middleweight title. In her post-fight interview, Shields wasted little time calling out her next desired opponents.
“Yes, if I can get it [unified welterweight champion Lauren Price] between December and January. If not, I would like to fight against [unified super welterweight champion] Mikaela [Mayer] or [unified middleweight champion] Tamm Thibeault – she got the rest of the three belts. She [Thibeault] don’t have that many fights in the professionals but she has belts. It’s not my fault these girls aren’t going to have the experience that I have. But hey, she got a belt that I know belongs to me and that is the Ring belt! I’ve always been #1 at 160. And when I decide to come back down to 160, that automatically makes me #1.”
Obviously, Shields has made it a habit to jump all over the weight divisions in search of opposition. So, given the variety of options that she presented, it will be interesting to see who T-Rex signs on the dotted line to trade leather with next. Regardless of who that professional foe turns out to be, stay tuned into 3Kings Boxing for all your pugilistic news.
