Callum Smith returns to take on mandatory John Ryder!

WBA super middleweight champion Callum “Mundo” Smith (26-0, 19ko) will be making a second title defense against mandatory challenger John “The Gorilla” Ryder (28-4, 16ko) on November 23.

Callum Smith

Smith is arguably the top dog of the division in the eyes of many pundits. He captured the WBA title via devastating knockout against George Grooves in dramatic fashion while winning the World Boxing Super Series tournament.

The 29 year-old, British fighter continued the momentum with another technical knockout victory in his first defense against former world champion Hassan N’Dam N’Jikam in June.

These performances gave credence as to why the boxing community feels he’s the front runner in one of the most ultra talented divisions in boxing.

The WBA champion has been hoping to get a fight with boxing’s mega star Canelo Alvarez, considering the Mexican superstar holds the regular title and there were rumors of a possible bout taking place.

Since things didn’t go according to plan, the focus is now back on getting into the ring and looking to end the year on a high note.

It’s also been suggested that a possible mega fight will be made with fellow countryman and WBO champion Billy Joe Saunders in 2020.

John Ryder

Ryder, isn’t to be overlooked! Not only is he the interim champion and #1 rated contender, but has looked impressive winning his last four fights by knockout.

The 31 year-old southpaw has been wanting this fight for a long time and when the governing body made the order, it was inevitable they would meet.

Both men share a common foe in former WBA regular champion Rocky Fielding.

Smith, obliterated the former champion in one round while the mandatory challenger was defeated via split decision.

The champion would take to social media informing his fans of the fight and his excitement to be fighting in his hometown.
