Errol Spence Expects Yordenis Ugas Fight to Elevate his Game

Up next for IFB and WBC welterweight champion Errol “The Truth” Spence (27-0, 21 KO’s) is a significant unification match. In that upcoming duel, on April 16, Spence will face talented Cuban WBA Super welterweight champion Yordenis “54 Milagros” Ugas (27-4, 12 KO’s).

If successful in this campaign, the Truth will only be one belt shy of becoming the undisputed king of the division. While Spence is confident in his chances to win, he is leaving no stone unturned in his preparation. And as he explained in a recent press event, his training has been on-going for quite some time.

“I been in the gym and I been training, I’m not just starting to be in the gym. I been in the gym probably four or five months prior to this. So, I have been training, I been focused and hungry.”

TAKING NOTHING FOR GRANTED

Regardless of who walks away victorious though, the Truth is merely thankful to be able to compete at this high level of the sport. This is because he has suffered two potentially career ending injuries.

“This is my third chance at boxing. You know, my eye injury could have been career-ending and my car crash could have been career-ending and it’s been a hell of a ride so far!”

Errol Spence in Fight Hype interview

In fact, this is the second consecutive bout that people feel like Spence should have utilized a tune-up before taking. The first was following his near fatal car accident prior to his showdown with Danny Garcia. Cleary though, the rough and tumble champion is not cut from that type of cloth.

“I just don’t believe in the tune-up thing, I feel like it’s on me and to fight someone like Ugas’ caliber is going to push me to the next level. It’s going to keep me training hard. If I was fighting Joe Blow or someone I know I am going to knockout, I’d probably be a little bit heavier, sometimes sneaking chips and snacks because I know it’s probably not going to be a long fight.”

THE FANS WIN!

In the end though, the main reason for this supreme dedication is due to his knowing how difficult a fight he potentially has on his hands.

“He’s a guy that I feel it will be hard to break him, he is a guy that’s always going to come to fight. He is going to give his heart and he is going to give it his all! So I can expect a very entertaining, action-packed fight for the fans. The fans are going to love this fight because Ugas comes to fight, I come to fight so it’s going to be a great show!”
