Spence vs Porter could take Canelo’s Date?
3kingsboxing.com reported that boxing’s mega-star unified champion Canelo Alvarez won’t be fighting on the historical Mexican September 14 date.
Boxing fans have enjoyed marquee fights for years on this date, so what will happen now?
Well, perhaps there is a way to salvage everything with the unification match-up between Errol “The Truth” Spence Jr. vs “Showtime” Shawn Porter.
Some insight was provided by Ringstar Sports promoter Richard Schaefer.
He shared comments during the final press conference for the July 20 fight between WBA champion Keith Thurman and future Hall of Famer Manny Pacquiao.
Notably, he was asked about the possibility of the fight date moving up.
“I’m going to talk to Al [Haymon] later on and see what’s his whole chart. But yeah, remember it’s the same venues.”
The fight is on schedule for September 28. Although, if it can be moved up, the two weeks could result in a huge financial boost.
It’s hard to imagine either fighter opposing the opportunity to fight on such a historical date. This event would also provide boxing fans with a memorable unification match-up.
All we can do now is wait and see what will happen. As it stands, the date is open and the opportunity is available.
3kingsboxing will continue to monitor the situation for further development.
