Errol Spence Seeking More Discipline in Between Fights!

The first step in addressing self-inflicted wounds are accepting responsibility and holding yourself accountable. Newly-crowned unified welterweight champion Errol Spence is planning to do just that.

In a post on social media, he admitted that he needs to take more care of his body in between fights. That is key to long-term success in any professional sport. He admitted to ballooning up 25+ pounds or more.

That could be detrimental to his reign as a champion if he doesn’t get that under control. Another fighter known for ballooning up in weight and having to spend his whole camp losing the weight instead of implementing a game-plan is Adrien Broner. We’ve all seen how that’s panned out for him.

It’ll be interesting to see if Spence brings in a strength and conditioning coach and nutritionist to help in between fights.

  1. This is pretty common with most fighters. Most natural welters like Errol walk around 20lbs over their fight weight. Point of fact, most fighters walk around 20lbs over their fight weight. Its when you go jumping up 40-50lbs is when you need to worry. Errol most likely ends up at 154-60 in the next couple of years anyways, so I wouldn’t worry about his weight gain. Broner would get fat, like Ricky Hatton. Thats not whats going on with Errol Spence. Errol is a gym rat, not a lazy slob like Broner. I’m actually looking forward to Errol moving up to 154 if he’s not going to fight Crawford. Crawford v Errol is the only fight i’m interested in for Errol at 147. Unless he wants to give Porter a rematch. Because Porter deserves it.
