Stephen Fulton Beats Carlos Castro By Split Decision
In one very exciting fight, featherweight boxer Stephen “Cool Boy Steph” Fulton (22-1, 8 KO’s) defeated Carlos Castro (30-3, 14 KO’s) by way of split decision.
Castro would open the bout in excellent fashion working behind a steady and powerful jab that was giving Fulton all manner of problems. Despite the jab, Cool Boy Steph was able to get in some solid body work by way of thudding hooks.
Over the third and fourth periods, Fulton began sliding into his grove by neutralizing the overactive jab and continuing to dig to the body. Unfortunately for him, his good work was suddenly thwarted when Castro dropped Fulton in the fifth with a nasty, short, straight counter-righthand very early in the period. Fulton was forced to get on his bike for the remainder of the round.
To his credit though, Cool Boy Steph bounced back very well in the sixth and seventh rounds. Yet, just as he seemed to be truly separating himself, Castro cracked him with the exact same short, straight righthand in the eighth. This time however, Cool Boy Steph managed to keep his feet, but he still had to largely play keep away for the rest of the round.
The final two periods were ferociously fought as both fighters felt that the match hung in the balance. Yet, when the fight went to the cards, Fulton was awarded the victory by way of split decision to the tune of 95-94 Castro, and 96-93, 95-94 for Stephen Fulton.
