Patrice Volny Puts Away Steven Butler In Round 9
In an all-Canadian middleweight showdown, Patrice “Vicious” Volny (19-1, 13KO) scored a late stoppage over Steven “Bang Bang” Butler (34-5-1, 28KO).
There was no feeling out process in this fight. Both men traded shots in the center of the ring from the opening round. Bang Bang repeatedly hit Volny in the arms looking to break through that high guard. He pushed back the older fighter before landing hard right hands. Yet, Vicious came roaring back, finally letting those hands go. He landed a barrage of hard shots that momentarily stunned Butler.
In the middle rounds, Butler continued coming forward and throwing punches in volume. However, Volny’s counter-punching, body shots, and uppercuts were landing with more regularity. In round nine, Butler put together a good combination that stunned the older fighter. Yet, Volny came roaring back and put together a flurry of punches that had Bang Bang in serious trouble.
This forced the referee to jump in and stop the fight. Some may feel the fight was stopped prematurely. But, it is worth mentioning that Butler was taking punishment and never threw anything back.
