Shakur Stevenson Fires Off at Ryan Garcia for Low Blow Critique!

It’s typical for a fighter to endure criticism after a fight. Fighters can ignore it or respond with extreme enthusiasm. Two-divisional champion Shakur “Fearless” Stevenson (19-0, 9KO) did the latter by responding over social media to criticism of dirty tactics from former WBC interim lightweight title holder Ryan “King Ry” Garcia (23-0, 19KO).

HOW THIS ALL GOT STARTED

Stevenson is fresh off a victory over top contender Robson Conceicao and he has been dealing with the aftermath of a wave of criticism. Garcia later took to social media to complain about the two-divisional champion landing illegal low blows.

“I don’t comment on a lot of fights. But, I’m not gonna lie, guys that fight with Shakur, it kind of got me a little pissed off. Not because Shakur won or anything – great, he was supposed to win. But, it’s the fact he got away with the most low blows I’ve ever seen somebody get away with, and he does it a lot.”

Nothing against Shakur, you just can’t throw that many low blows without realizing your throwing low blows […] again, nothing against Shakur, but man you gotta keep your punches up.”

Of course, Fearless got wind of this and clapped back with a vengeance by indicating King Ry is easy pickings and soft.

IS A FIGHT WITH STEVENSON POSSIBLE?

Stevenson missed weight for the Conceicao fight and has announced he is going to the lightweight division. Therefore, he would have no problem fighting Garcia. However, Garcia has decided to campaign at junior welterweight. This move was made leading up to the fight with former junior lightweight champion Javier Fortuna

Furthermore, Garcia is trying to get a fight with his arch-rival, three-divisional champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis. He has expressed that fighting at lightweight is in the rearview, but is willing to make an exception if it means getting the fight with Davis.

The boxing community wants to know if Garcia is willing to make that same exception for Stevenson. With social media buzzing about wanting to see these two fight, if King Ry can not get a fight with Davis, then fighting Fearless could be a solid alternative.
