Sunny Edwards v Felix Alvarado Set for November 11 in England!

On September 8, 3Kings Boxing reported that the IBF ordered a fight between IBF flyweight champ Sunny “Showtime” Edwards (18-0, 4 KOs) and mandatory challenger Felix Alvarado (38-2, 33 KOs). At that time, we promised to keep abreast with any further developments. Here’s the latest.

Probellum promotions have announced that Edwards – Alvarado will take place on November 11 at Sheffield Arena in Sheffield, England. Edwards won the title with an upset unanimous Moruti Mthalane in April 2022. The 26-year-old twice has defended the belt with decision wins over Jayson Mama in December 2021 and Muhammad Waseem in March 2022.

Title defense number three will be against Alvarado, previously the IBF champion at junior flyweight. He captured that title by blasting out Randy Petalcorin in seven rounds in October 2018. After three successful title defenses, the 33-year-old decided to vacate and move to 112.

A LOW-KEY EXCELLENT CONTEST

Throughout 2022, Edwards hoped to engage in a showdown with WBC champ Julio Cesar Martinez. Unfortunately, that potential unification fight fizzled out at the negotiating table. While he didn’t get the fight with Martinez, Alvarado is a solid fallback opponent.

Pundits who follow the lower-weight divisions consider the mandatory challenger one of the top guys from 108-112 pounds. He is tough as oak, strong for his size, and carries plenty of power in both hands. Alvarado has the potential to not only give Edwards all he can handle; he has the ability and fistic TNT to walk out of the ring as the new champ. If you’re a fan of the lower-weight divisions, this is one of the more intriguing fights of the year.
