Shakur Stevenson and Oscar Valdez Reach Agreement for April 30 Unification Bout!

3kingsboxing.com recently reported that WBO junior lightweight champion Shakur “Fearless” Stevenson (17-0, 9KOs) and WBC champion Oscar Valdez (30-0, 23KOs) were in talks for a spring unification showdown. We have now learned that terms have been agreed to by both men for an April 30 showdown. The fight will take place at the MGM Grand Arena In Las Vegas, Nevada and air on ESPN.

This marquee matchup will go a long way in determining who’s the best junior lightweight in the world. This battle of styles poses major intrigue and excitement for fans looking forward to this fight. Stevenson, a two-division WBO champion, has all the skills to reign as a perennial pound for pound fighter for years to come.

Blessed with excellent footwork, reflexes and boxing fundamentals, the Newark, New Jersey native is only getting better. Not only has he shown to be an excellent defensive fighter, he’s also shown the ability to be an effective offensive fighter as well.

For Oscar Valdez, this is opportunity to rise to the occasion yet again. Heading into his February 2021 fight with then WBC champion Miguel Berchelt he was a major underdog but came with a major knockout victory. However, he looked undesirable against amateur rival Robson Conceicao in September 2021. The win would stand as his first title defense but many fans believed the WBC title should have changed hands that night.

Regardless, Valdez did deliver his best performance of his career against Berchelt the fight before.
