Sunny Edwards Targets Chocolatito After Bam Endorsement

On December 16, there will be an extremely meaningful fight taking place in the flyweight division. In that duel, IBF flyweight champion Sunny ”Showtime” Edwards (20-0, 4 KO’s) will face WBO 112-pound champion Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez (18-0, 11 KO). The prizefight will pit the fast knuckles and fancy feet of Edwards versus the methodical pressure fighter complete with a withering body attack. Despite the competitiveness of the impending contest, four division champion Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez (51-4, 41 KO’s) has thrown his money in on Bam.

DON’T MAKE ME COME UP THERE!

For his part, Edwards is coming off a rather dominant win over Andres Campos. After beginning the fight head and shoulders over his opponent, midway through the duel, Showtime began changing tactics. Here he routinely lounged on the ropes allowing Campos to enjoy his greatest moments of offensive success. To his credit, in the later rounds, Edward’s magnetism to the ropes began to wane a bit as he elected to box again. Once done, he easily dominated the fight again.

Being that he is always ready for a good scrap, Showtime was quick to express his willingness to test his might against Gonzalez. As of late, Chocolatito has gone 2-2 in his last four fights. In his very last match, Gonzalez lost a trilogy match with longtime rival Juan Francisco Estrada. Clearly this is a matter of pride, so it would seem that Edwards just wants to pop Gonzalez in the mouth whether he has a belt or not.

First however, Edwards and Rodriguez still need to handle their business to see who the new unified champion will be. Then, if victorious. Showtime can explore any potential prizefights with Gonzalez. It will be interesting to see if Edwards and Gonzalez maintain a war of words, or if this was a one and done. No matter what the outcome though, 3Kings Boxing will be here to report the news.
