Tiger Johnson Dominates Christopher Guerrero; Targets Devin Haney
In his first bout of the year, welterweight boxer Delante “Tiger” Johnson (18-0, 8 KO’s) picked up his latest win by way of unanimous decision. He accomplished this by defeating Christopher “Machine Gun” Guerrero (16-1, 9 KO’s) to the tune of 99-91 (twice) and 100-90.
When questioned during his post-fight interview, Johnson forcefully called out WBO 147-pound champion Devin Haney (33-0, 15 KO’s). The two have had brewing tension for the last several months following a physical clash with the two camps.
“Devin and his whole crew, y’all know what it is with me. Y’all niggas didn’t want to fight me one on one because y’all know what it is! Tell Devin to come see me!”
While this may be a duel that Johnson, who is ranked #10 (WBO) and #14 (IBF), really wants to sink his teeth into, it’s unlikely that he’ll get that match any time soon. Currently, Haney is neck deep in talks with both WBO lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson and junior welterweight boxer Keyshawn Davis. And even of these two, Davis appears to be who is going to get the dance ticket.
A Haney vs Johnson is not likely in the foreseeable future. He may want to set his aim on opponents such as #5 (WBO) Arnold Barboza or #7 (WBO) Alexis Rocha. Each of these men are coming off recent victories, should be looking for action and will advance his standing towards forcing a match with Devin Haney. So, let’s wait and see what is next for Tiger Johnson.
