Rey Vargas and Alberto Machado will make title defenses February 9
WBC super-bantamweight champion Rey Vargas will make the fourth defense of his title on February 9. Franklin Manzanilla (18-4, 17KOs) will be the next challenger.
Additionally, this will be Vargas’ first fight in nearly nine months. The undefeated champion has huge opportunities for potential unification bouts later this year.
Any of his fellow champions like Daniel Roman, TJ Doheny and Emanuel Navarette are viable candidates.
Manazilla is coming off a solid victory over long-time contender Julio Ceja. In that fight, he scored a fourth-round technical decision.
Also undefeated WBA junior lightweight champion Alberto Machado will make his fourth title defense against Andrew Cancino (19-4-2, 14KOs). If Machado wins, he could be in line to face WBA Super champion Gervonta Davis mid 2019.
This of course is contingent on the result of Davis vs Abner Mares in February.
Machado and Vargas will be apart of the main Golden Boy card that will be televised on DAZN.
