Emiliano Vargas Feels Ready to Step Up After Besting Quintana


140 pound contender Emiliano “El General” Vargas (17-0, 14KO) proves to be the goods after winning a tough fight against Agustin “Sugar” Quintana (22-3-1, 13KO). The undefeated, ranked fighter wants to fight step up the level of competition.

The Argentinian tested El General early as both men came out looking to establish dominance. However, Vargas controlled the fight by using the jab to perfection and landing solid counter shots. He even employed sound defense by using angles to avoid Quintana’s counter shots.

Sugar wasn’t going to go away easily and fought back by landing the right hand repeatedly. He managed to put Vargas on the back foot with forward aggression and counterpunches.

Yet, Vargas turned it up down the stretch with hard body shots that turned the tide of the bout in his favor. With Quintana opponent busted open, the referee him on the stool before round ten and awarded Vargas the stoppage. This was a bad call – Quintana should have been given a chance to finish the fight.

During the post-fight interview, Vargas made it clear he wants to face a former world champion next.

“I want a former world champion in my next fight…I wanna keep on stepping it up.”
