Frank Warren Wants Moses Itauma to Challenge Daniel Dubois
England’s Moses Itauma (11-0, 9 KOs) is arguably boxing’s fastest-rising and most talented young heavyweight. Only 20, is he good enough to fight the elites in the division? According to his promoter, Frank Warren, the answer is yes. He plans on having him face IBF heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois (22-2, 21 KOs) by the end of this year.
Itauma’s most recent outing was a first-round stoppage over Demsey McKean in December 2024. Fighting on the undercard of the rematch between Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury, it was an eye-opening performance from Itauma against a well-respected veteran that many boxing enthusiasts thought would give him a tough fight.
READY TO MAKE THEIR MOVE
With 2025 now upon us, Warren sat down for an exclusive interview with the British boxing source, BoxNation. The head of Queensberry Promotions believes that Itauma is ready to compete with anyone in the division and detailed his plans for his young charge in 2025.
“A very special talent. He can do whatever he wants to do . . . I believe whoever he fights, whoever it is, and the level they are, he gives anyone a massive problem.”
“I want to see him win a version of the title, and I want to see a big, big, domestic bust-up down the road – maybe between Daniel and him or whoever is there standing.”
PUTTING THE CART BEFORE THE HORSE?
On the surface, it may seem that Dubois would be too much for Itauma. The IBF champion is coming off a career-best win – a fifth-round knockout – over two-time unified champion Anthony Joshua in October 2024. With consecutive wins over Jarrell “Big Baby” Miller, Filip Hrgovic, and Joshua, Dubois’s confidence is through the roof.
However, Itauma has the look of a prodigy. The British southpaw is highly skilled and poised for such a young heavyweight. He also packs plenty of power in both hands. One can argue that Itauma is a faster, quicker, and more fluid combination puncher than the champion.
Would it be wise for Warren to make Itauma’s next fight against Dubois? The promoter admitted that he would not immediately push his fighter into deep waters. However, Itauma is progressing at a rapid pace. What makes the potential bout a strong possibility is that Itauma and Dubois are both promoted by Warren.
