Filipino rising star Jerwin Ancanjas is slated to fight on September 19 against Mexico’s Alexandro Santiago. Ancanjas’ IBF super flyweight title will be on the line.

This matchup isn’t the type of fight that a World champion should be facing. Ancanjas is currently a title holder in one of the most talent-stacked divisions. In turn, matches like this can hurt the Filipino’s reputation; increasingly so if he continues to face this level of competition.

We all know that, in boxing, anything can happen. Many experts didn’t give Alvarez a chance in defeating Kovalev, and we all witnessed how that fiasco ended.

Currently, Santiago is nowhere near Alvarez’s level. His last fight resulted in a split decision loss to a man much less talented than Ancanjas. This fight will be his first shot at a world title.
At this stage in his career, Ancanjas should be fighting against guys like Roman “Chocolatico” Gonzalez or Gallo Estrada. If he is able to beat guys of that caliber, then he should try and unify against Sor Rungvisai.

I highly doubt that neither Chocolatito nor Estrada would turn down another opportunity to become a world champion. Winning a title would set either man up for a more lucrative rematch against the pound-for-pound star Sor Rungvisai.

As most critics have stated, this is probably the hottest division in all of boxing, and that is saying a lot; given that boxing as a whole is getting interesting. So pull out your swimsuit and bring out a cold lemonade, because boxing is just starting to heat up.
