In the junior welterweight division, the WBO has officially informed the teams of Arnold Barboza Jr (28-0, 10KO) and Liam Paro (23-0, 14KO) a purse bid has been called. This news came down once the 10-day time frame to negotiate a fight had passed when the organization ordered them to fight on April 11.

“On April 11, 2023, this Committee ordered the commencement of negotiations for the subject matter bout. The parties were granted 10 days to reach an agreement. The foregoing time period has elapsed without an accord confirmed by either party.”

“It is hereby ordered to conduct a purse bid ceremony on Thursday, April 27, 2023, at 11 am at the WBO main offices.”

BARBOZA VS PARO WINNER TO GET TITLE SHOT

Barboza, who fights under the Top Rank banner, was trying to get a fight with WBC champion Regis Prograis. His manager, Rick Mirigian, took to social media looking to get a deal done for a fight with Prograis.

In his last outing, the Californian dug deep to pull out a victory over two-division champion Jose Pedraza on February 3. He earned his stripes in that fight and quickly called for a title shot.

The not-well-known Paro fights under the Matchroom Boxing umbrella. The Aussie caught boxing fans’ attention with a first-round knockout of Brock Jarvis on October 2022.

Following that victory, Matchroom Boxing’s Eddie Hearn was adamant regarding Paro deserving a world title shot. Moreover, he is ranked #3 and #4 ,respectively, by the WBO and IBF. The winner of Barboza vs Paro will be next in line for a title shot. Expect them to be matched against the winner between WBO junior welterweight champion Josh Taylor and former unified lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez on June 10.
