Will there be a Manny Pacquiao-Freddie Roach reunion for his November 5 return?
This past weekend Manny Pacquiao turned the clock back with an impressive seventh round KO performance over Lucas Matthysse.
Notably absent from Pacquiao’s corner was long time trainer Freddie Roach. That was one of the major talking points leading up to this bout.
In his place was long time friend Buboy Fernandez, who has been in the camp since the beginning. The new champion did not hesitate to credit Fernandez for preparing him properly for Matthysse.
However, he did mention the possibility of bringing back Roach as his trainer.
Pacquiao has this to say on the matter:
“Training with Buboy, I’m not saying that Freddie Roach is not a good trainer. He’s a good trainer. He’s a legend. I’m thinking to get back Freddie Roach again. I’m thinking about that. But Buboy has done well for this training camp and this fight. So I really appreciate it.”
Roach has mentioned that he has not spoke to Pacquiao since the Jeff Horn fight. He also mentions that he was never given a notice before being removed as head trainer.
Before a reunion can happen, conversations have to be had to smooth over any ill feelings both guys may share.
Plans for a November 5 return are in place. At this time, Pacquiao has not made any comments on who he would like to fight next.
