Leigh Wood v Mauricio Lara September 24 Bout is Off!

The upcoming September 24 fight between WBA Regular 126-pound champion Leigh “Leigh-Thal” Wood (26-2, 16KOs) and Mauricio Lara (24-2-1, 17KOs) has been postponed due to an injury sustained by Wood.

The fight would’ve seen the winner go on to face the winner of the WBC and WBA 126-pound unification bout between Leo Santa Cruz and Rey Vargas. This news is unfortunate as this is a fight that was requested by Wood himself, knowing how challenging a bout this will be.

The fight between Wood and Lara would’ve surely provided fireworks from the moment the bell rang. Both men possess fight-ending power and fighting styles that produce action bouts. However, the fighters will now have to reset as Wood heals up. Hopefully it’s not a long-term injury and the fight can be rescheduled for later in 2022.

We here at 3Kings Boxing will continue to monitor the story and provide updates as they become available.
