26-year-old contender wants to make sure he’s ready when he steps in the ring for a title
3KingsBoxing.com has learned that British light heavyweight prospect Anthony Yarde (15-0, 14KOs) recently rejected a would be title opportunity against IBF Champion Artur Berterbiev.
Yarde, 26, is ranked number six in the IBF rankings and has been impressive so far in his young career. The London native only had twelve amateur fights under his belt prior to turning pro. One has to think a step up against the hard hitting and more experienced Bertebiev would’ve been too big of a jump with only fifteen pro fights under his belt.
While this title opportunity will go to someone else, it’s likely that he isn’t too far away from another opportunity at a title shot. Yarde, 15-0 14KO, is also ranked at number two in the WBO, which means in the near future.
The light heavyweight division is considered by most pundits to be one of the toughest in the sport right now and this decision shows that at the very least his team is looking out for the best interest of their fighter. Let the young gun get some more experience and he should be ready for that title shot the next time the opportunity presents itself.
