Joshua Buatsi Receives Gift Decision Over Zach Parker
With a possible title fight on the line, Zach Parker (26-2, 18KO) was robbed against Joshua Buatsi (20-1, 13KO) for the light heavyweight WBA International title.
Parker controlled the fight with movement, the jab, combination punches, and ring IQ. It was an uneventful fight as Parker switched from orthodox to southpaw and held whenever Buatsi got in close. Buatsi did land some body shots on occasion, but he was reduced to following Parker around the ring. Looking to land one shot.
Down the stretch, Parker maintained control of the contest until the final bell. One judge scored it a ridiculous 95-95. But that scorecard was outdone by the other judges’ scores of 96-94 for Buatsi.
There is no way he won this fight, even if some felt Parker held a lot during the contest. Nonetheless, Buatsi was completely ineffective. The entire commentary agreed that Parker should have won the fight. When he was announced as the winner, the crowd didn’t even respond, but they booed him during the in-ring, post-fight interview.
This version of Buatsi does not deserve a title shot next. Instead, the WBA should order an immediate rematch.
