Xander Zayas Challenges Sebastian Fundora to a Unification!

In his latest tour of duty, super welterweight boxer Xander Zayas (22-0, 13 KO’s) defeated Jorge Perez in a scrappy yet strategic match. With the win, Zayas, 25, plucked up the vacant WBO 154-pound title. Obviously, taking possession of this title has thrust him into very dangerous waters.

WBC super welterweight champion Sebastian “The Towering Inferno” Fundora certainly represents one of the rough customers within arms reach of Zayas. Clearly though, the young Puerto Rican champion is not all that worried about it. This was easily seen when, during his post-fight interview, Zayas called Fundora out directly.

“Sebastian Fundora just fought last week, but I also heard he is looking for an opponent. I am ready in December! ”

As he mentioned, Fundora is coming off a satisfying win over Tim Tszyu in a rematch. Even though The Towering Inferno won the initial bout, his win was mired in controversy due to a horribly bloody gash that Tszyu suffered. Many believe that minus the cut, Tszyu may have prevailed.

In the rematch however, Fundora beat up Tszyu and forced him to quit on the stool. A match with The Towering Inferno would definitely represent another step-up in class of competition. So, let’s see who is next on the menu for Xander Zayas!
