Abdullah Mason Beats Albert Bell via TKO
In his first title defense, WBO lightweight champion Abdullah Mason (21-0, 18 KO’s) had to dig deep to pull out the victory. The Cleveland native was pushed to force a clutch twelfth-round TKO of the previously undefeated “Prince” Albert Bell (28-1, 9 KO’s). With the hard-fought win under his belt, Mason should look to bigger and better opposition.
At the moment, two of the other three titles are vacant. This is somewhat of an issue for Mason who would like to begin unifying titles, as he expressed in his post-fight interview:
“Anybody who wants it can come and get it!”
Outside of himself, the last titleholder in the division is IBF lightweight champion Raymond “Danger” Muratalla (24-0, 17 KO’s). Sadly for Mason, Muratalla has an upcoming August 1 dance date with Robson Conceicao to satisfy before any other in-ring obligations can be taken on.
Given their history, perhaps a duel could be made for Mason to fight Floyd Schofield (19-0, 13 KO’s), ranked #1(WBA), #9 (WBO) and #13 (IBF), for the vacant WBA title. This stands to be a very competitive and entertaining bout which already comes with a pre-built backstory. Yet, with so many variables up in the air, we will just have to see wait is next for Mason!
