WBC Interim Titlist Carlos Adames To Face Julian Williams June 24
Former unified junior middleweight champion Julian “J-Rock” Williams (28-3-1, 16KO) is getting the chance to get into the middleweight title picture in an upcoming fight against WBC Interim champion Carlos Adames (22-1, 17KO) on June 24.
With WBC champion Jermall Charlo has been missing in action since 2021. Certainly aware, the WBC is moving pieces around on the chessboard with a title opportunity possibly next for the winner. Adames is looking to stay busy by fighting the former unified champion. Moreover, he is coming off an impressive win over Juan Macias Montiel for the Interim title in 2022. The Dominican has been on a four-fight win streak since losing a costly WBO Interim junior middleweight title bout against Patrick Teixeira in 2019.
J-Rock seems to be back in the groove after suffering some difficult times. The Philadelphian was on top of the world after snatching the unified titles away from Jarret Hurd in 2019. However, he lost the titles against unknown Jeison Rosario in 2020. Another defeat would follow against Vladimir Hernandez in 2021.
Yet, his most significant loss was losing long-time trainer Stephen “Breadman” Edwards following the Rosario defeat. Fast forward to 2022, he is ready to tackle the middleweight division with a familiar face back in his corner – Stephen “Breadman” Edwards.
This fight was destined to happen. As fans may remember, it was rumored Adames was knocking on the door of possibly facing J-Rock when Hurd opted out of the rematch. Fans can expect both fighters to bring their A-game, especially with the possibility of a title shot hanging in the balance.
All the action happens live on Showtime at the Armory Arena in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
