Andy Ruiz Claims There was No Offer From Wilder to Haggle Over
As reported by 3Kings Boxing, earlier this year, heavyweight boxers Deontay “The Bronze Bomber” Wilder (43-2-1, 42 KO’s) and Andy “The Destroyer” Ruiz (35-2, 22 KO’s) were very interested in facing one another. Sadly, the fight broke down when Team Wilder accused Ruiz of demanding too much money. In response, The Destroyer insisted he simply wanted to be paid what he was worth. Now, in a recent interview, the one time heavyweight champion is once again saying he merely wants to be properly compensated for his time in the ring.
The trouble with this latest interview conducted with Fight Hub TV is the fact that Andy Ruiz is putting out contradictory information. This is because The Destroyer says that Wilder is lying about the whole situation. According to Ruiz, Team Wilder never made an offer to Ruiz because, had they done so, then he would have been happy to negotiate. Yet, his own father had previously gone to the media to slam the meager offer that Wilder did extend. So it begs the questions: how could Wilder both, offer a mingy amount of money and offer no money at the same time?
“It was all bullshit! He doesn’t want to fight, he never gave me an offer. How am I going to say, ‘hey, I want $25 million , this, this and that?’ It’s all bullshit! Then he is over here trying to blame my dad. I mean, dads are going to look out, try to do the best for their kids, you know? Tell him to show me proof that I wanted $25 fucking millions dollars because you know that’s a fucking lie!”
SERIAL DUCKER?
On the outside looking in, it is hard for observers to really know the actual facts of the matter. At the same time, Andy Ruiz is definitely accruing the reputation of demanding too much money for fights. WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury accused The Destroyer of the same transgression earlier this year. In this instance, Fury claimed that Ruiz demanded $20 million payday to chuck knuckles.
Now, the most recent boxer to make the same accusation is Chinese bruiser Zhilei Zhang, who also stated that Ruiz harbored unrealistic expectations about his financial reward. In the end, Ruiz could be being truthful about actually being short changed at the negotiation table. Yet, to have three separate fighters all make the same claim in the same year is a terrible look.
In a change of tactics, The Destroyer now hopes that he can get Wilder on the phone and hammer out a deal with only the two fighters present. Only time will tell if this different approach gets any real traction. Yet, regardless of whether it works or not, stay tuned to 3Kings Boxing for all the latest twists and turns in this on-going saga!
“Me and him need to negotiate, me and him only. Me and him need to talk. We tried to do that but it didn’t go well because his trainer, Malik Scott, was getting into the negotiations and blah, blah, blah. But me and him need to talk man-to-man and tell him let’s fucking fight.”
