Bill Haney Cautions Regis Prograis Against Disrespecting Devin
After capturing all the titles at 135 pounds to become undisputed lightweight champion, Devin “The Dream” Haney (30-0, 15 KO’s) sought out his next thrilling challenge. As a result, Haney sought to move up to the super lightweight division to face WBC 140-pound champion Regis “Rougorou” Prograis (29-1, 24 KO’s) on December 9. Long known to be a heavy-handed pressure fighter, Prograis is being viewed as a stern test for the undefeated Haney.
Unsurprisingly, Prograis not only believes that he will topple The Dream, he feels as if he will dominate and stop him. Going a step further, Rougarou has been rather mouthy about stating his opinion that Haney is a charmed combatant. Like Prince Akeem of Zamunda, the WBC champion thinks that The Dream has been provided a paved, rose-petal path to his titles. Naturally, Bill Haney, Devin’s father and trainer, took some exception to this stance, as he shared on ThaBoxingVoice.
“All that other shit, that slick shit is bullshit! It’s bullshit and it’s actually a turn off to what they are doing. Give Dev his respect like we give Regis his, or you going to look like a fucking fool when Devin beat the shit out you on December the ninth.”
ONLY ONE CAN BE RIGHT
Whenever a boxer elevates in weight, there is always the chance that their power and durability do not survive the journey. Not to mention, The Dream has certainly never been defined or overly associated with formidable punching power. Also, many will point to the fact that Haney was already rocked in the ring during his duel with Jorge Linares.
Due to these variables, Prograis versus Haney is a legitimately intriguing fight. Even with these yet to be answered questions, there is a huge contingent of boxing insiders and fans who believe that Haney’s boxing skill will render Prograis’s power mute. So it will be fun to have everything revealed come fight night.
For the sake of Prograis’s pride however, he better land some of those critical bombs that turn a fight around. If not, he will have a real tough time during the post-fight interview and conference! Yet, no matter who makes good on their vow of victory, stay tuned to 3Kings Boxing for all the latest twists and turns in the sport of boxing.
