Cecilia Braekhus speaks on bypassing Claressa Shields bout
Unified junior middleweight champion Claressa “T-Rex” Shields (10-0, 2ko) is a hawk when it comes to social media. Fans know she doesn’t hesitate to respond, especially when she feels the whole story isn’t being told.
The back and forth between the undisputed middleweight champion and former two-divisional champion Laila “She Bee Stinging” Ali has been well documented. However, there has also been an ongoing dispute with rival undisputed welterweight champion Cecilia “The First Lady” Breakhus (36-0, 9ko).
The Flint champion immediately set her sights on Braekhus after defeating former middleweight champion Christina “Lady” Hammer (25-1, 11ko) back in 2019. It is one of the reasons she went down to junior middleweight.
In an interview on Ask The Experts with Curran Bhatia, the First Lady revealed that the Flint champion blocked her. Furthermore, a better offer was on the table.
“It was never about the weight, the venue or anything. It was very easy. I got a better offer from DAZN and took it.”
That is a cut and dry statement. Braekhus signed with Matchroom Boxing, and it makes sense considering around her division they have control of all the big fights. Moreover, there is a mega-showdown with undisputed lightweight champion Katie “KT” Taylor (15-0, 6ko).
That assumes the outcome of Taylor’s upcoming bout with seven-divisional champion Amanda “The Real Deal” Serrano.
Well, I shouldn’t have to tell you what happened next.
T-rex stays in tune with social media and when it’s about her, you can bet the farm a reply is coming.
