Oscar Collazo KO’s Valdez and Targets Unified Champion Ricardo Sandoval at 112
In his latest prizefight, Puerto Rican sensation Oscar “El Pupilo” Collazo (15-0, 12 KO’s) went up in weight to topple late replacement Neider Valdez (15-4-3, 12 KO’s) by way of second round knockout. Had everything gone according to plan, Collazo would have defended his WBO and WBA minimumweight titles against the challenge of Joey Canoy. Regrettably, however, Visa issues derailed the would-be bout.
With his vastly outmatched flyweight replacement out of the way, El Pupilo is now free to look to future conquests. If given his way, Collazo would love to step in the ring to test his might against WBC and WBA flyweight champion Ricardo “El Nino” Sandoval (27-2, 18 KO’s) in his next bout. To do so would require the minimumweight champion to jump up yet an additional weight class to meet Sandoval. It does not appear that this would be any sort of deal breaker for him or his Golden Boy Promotion backers.
