Crawford Believes Beating Spence Solidifies his Legacy as the Best of This Era

WBO welterweight champion Terence “Bud” Crawford (39-0, 30 KOs) is looking forward to the July 29 unification showdown with unified 147-pound champion Errol “The Truth” Spence Jr. (28-0, 22 KOs). For Crawford, the match with Spence is more than the opportunity to become the undisputed welterweight champion of the world. This is about defining his legacy.

PROVIDING WHAT THE PEOPLE ASKED FOR

It was a long, drawn-out process to make this fight. Some in the boxing community felt Crawford was hesitant to fight The Truth. But during an exclusive interview on The Last Stand Podcast, Bud said that any accusations that he didn’t want the fight was pure nonsense.

“I knew those types of people didn’t know what they was talking about. If anything, I wanted the fight more than anybody. Spence wanted the fight as well. We both came together, and we’re giving the fans everything that they want.”

This matchup features the two best welterweights in the world and two of the sport’s elite. Crawford is ranked #3, and Spence is ranked #4 in the latest 3kingsboxing.com Top Ten Fighters rankings.

Spence often wears opponents down with his physicality, work-rate, and punishing style. But Bud said he has everything to neutralize whatever The Truth thinks about doing once the bell rings.

“I’ve seen it all . . . I’ve been in the ring with bigger fighters. I’ve been in the ring with pressure fighters. I’ve been in the ring with fighters that throw a lot of punches, and use their jab. I’ve been in the ring with all of them, southpaws, orthodox, big, small, tall, medium.

I’ve been boxing for a long time – since I was seven. So, I don’t think there’s nothing that Errol Spence can do that I haven’t seen before.”

SO MUCH IS ON THE LINE

During the kickoff press tour, the unified champion said he’s the superior fighter and plans to break the will of Crawford. But the WBO champion believes his skills and ring intelligence will be the separating factors.

Bud said the upcoming super-fight is going to be his moment to shine. There’s no doubt in his mind that he’s getting the victory in what is the biggest fight of his career.

“After July 29, they’re going to say Terence Crawford is special; he’s the best fighter of this era.”
